Family Opportunity Center

The mission of the Family Center is to provide information, case management, support,
and referrals to low income and homeless families in the area.

Hours

  • Family Lab: 10am - 3pm, Monday - Friday
    • This is a time when parents/families can come to the center together to play games, do laundry, read books, do art, watch DVD's, seek assistance, or use the computers (assistance available).  Adult educational programs may also be offered during these hours.

  • After School Hours: 3pm - 6pm, Monday - Friday
    • After School Hours starts with a snack, followed by homework/tutoring/quiet time, and programs such as the ones listed below.

Services

  • Showers & Coin Laundry Facilities - two showers, two washers, and two dryers available.

  • Case Management: Guidance on information & services available to families.

  • Clothes Closet: Scheduled time exclusively for families to choose clothing as well as necessities (diapers, toiletries, food).

  • Computer Lab : Access to high-speed Internet access on state of the art PCs.

  • Emergency Rent or Utilities Assistance : One Time Emergency Assistance for Palo Alto residents only.

  • Children's Programs : These programs run  from 3pm & 6pm, Monday through Friday.   Registration required for non-residents.
    • Fun & educational programs for kids (K-12).    Current offerings include cooking class and extremely crazy games.
    • Tutoring: Assistance with all subjects for all grades.
  • Adult Programs : Educational & fun sessions for parents, including classes & Parents' Night Out.  Registration required.  In 2007, we will be offering the following evening and/or weekend classes: Computer Skills, Sewing, and Getting the Most of your Child's School.

  • Special Events: Gatherings for special occasions or just to get everyone together.  These events do not occur on a regular basis & may be age specific: such as a teen gathering or for all families.

  • Art Gallery: A rotating selection of artwork children & adults have made.
